Tips on Getting Ahead in Your Current JobWouldn’t it be nice? More money. More respect. Better Hours. More Vacation Time. Whatever it is that you are looking for more of in your current career, you know that you want to move up from your current position. While many people would love the opportunity to get ahead in their jobs, they are uncertain as how to do just that. They may see their fellow coworkers getting promotions and raises and still have no idea how to do it themselves. If you’re one of these struggling to get ahead, don’t fear. We have listed the best tips on getting ahead in your job below.

1.  Dress the Part- Until recently, you may have dressed very casual at work-because, well, you could. One      great way to make your employers not only take notice of you but also realize that you take your job      seriously, is to dress more professionally than you may be at present. This means, perhaps, getting a more      sophisticated hair cut, making sure your hands and face are well-groomed, and sporting more professional      attire such as suits and collared shirts. No matter how casual the dress is at work, upping your own      personal dress will help you get ahead.

2.  Identify a Specialty- At work, there are probably a thousand different things you do on a regular basis, and      if your particular position is general-then it’s time to choose a direction for your career with your company.      Choosing a department or position that you would like to strive towards will help identify yourself to the                                                                        company as well as yourself.                                                                   4.  Make Your Goals Known- It does seem obvious that your goals                                                                        should be known if you are working hard and following the rest                                                                        of these tips to get ahead, but don’t just assume your employers                                                                        know that you want to get ahead. In your career and at work,                                                                        you must be explicit about your short and long term goals.                                                                        Employers typically have so much on their mind and so many                                                                        employees to manage,that they can easily be distracted from                                                                        watching just you for cues.  This is why you should let them                                                                        know. 6.  Get More Skills- Another great way to show your employer that you are ready to get ahead and grow      with the company is by getting more skills. You can do this by shadowing another department, taking      classes at a local college, etc. Getting more skills to accent your value not only makes you much more      attractive to your superiors than fellow coworkers, but it also makes you more marketable when the      time comes to move on to another company.
